Hari Raya Celebrations in School

Hari Raya's here! You know what that means?

Feasts!

Malaysia has a culture where we hold open houses during the festivities. We invite others to our home for a gathering and feasts. School, apparently, is no exception.

Just last Friday, our school held a feast for the Raya.

We could wear any kind of Malaysian traditional clothing we wanted.

I didn't have a cheongsam, sad to say. My mother had some traditional Punjabi clothes, however, so I got to wear those.

At 9.00, we went to the Hall for the feast.

We first had prayers, then the singing of the national anthem and then speeches from highlighted teachers and of course, our Principal.

We had a special Melodrama after the talks and I even learnt a thing or two!

After that?

EAT!

We had to follow some rules, of course, but it was all worth it in the end!

Fried mihun, curry chicken, ketupat, peanut sauce, sugared doughtnuts, chocolate cookies, pineapple cookies...

WALAU!

So much food!

My friend scared me (Jeez) and my best friend (Oi...). We had fun chatting and eating though.

That friend of mine starting chatting some other topics since my bestie had to leave for Choir. We then started to duet Secret Garden and Determination.

                                        (Secret Garden)

                                       (Determination)

The feast ended at 11.00. The two of us left the Hall to go to the room when some of my other friends came to me.

They gave my a cookie, saying they left it for me (Aww!). I ate it...

And the most horrifying taste came to my mouth! (HOLY *****!!!)

I spat it out and rinsed my mouth countless times, them laughing at my antics.

My duet partner ate one too. She walked with me to class halfway before spitting in the canteen.

                               (What was in that cookie?!)

She followed me again when we reached the stairs. She looked at them with utter horror.

Did I mention she was wearing a Baju Kurung?

So basically:

We made it to the top and parted ways.

Yummy yummy food?

Not just that!

Mixed culture has been added to the mix from the start!
