So Tell Me Whatcha Wanna Hear

Lynx keeps silent. She can't tell them.

At least, not yet.

"Lynx, c'mon..." Blue urges her.

Ink puts a hand on Lynx, catching her attention.

"Lynx, you know we want to know what wrong..." Ink whispers. He sighs as she still says nothing.

Dream waves a hand in front of her. She doesn't even flinch.

"Hey!! Heeeeeeey! C'mon! Say something!" He cries.

Behind the sunglasses she is wearing, Lynx blinks. She seems to have noticed.

"Sorry, what?" she asks.

"Man, Lynx, you're so slow today!" Blue complains.

She groans internally.

How can she tell them?

******************************************************

"I'm sorry, Ms. Mochi, but your condition will leave you blind. It's not permanent, but these few months will be very dificult for you."
the doctor said.

Lynx clenched her fists.

Why must she get this freaking illness?!

She contracted an illness where her immune system goes haywire and starts to mess up her bodily functions. She can't eat solid food as her body will reject it and she throws it up, it hurts to breathe sometimes, and now she's temporarily blind?! How can this be worse??

Oh yeah, she now gets sick very easily, and she doesn't handle them so well. Even a simple cough gives her a hard time.

What more of this madness must she face before she is cured?!

******************************************************

Ink is the first to realize.

He was curious when Lynx didn't respond when Dream waved his hand at her. And what's with those sunglasses?

He finds her groping around the lockers the next day. She seems pretty disoriented. She desperately slides her finger across the name sticker on each locker.

What in the world is she doing?

"Lynx!" he shouts. She whirls around, adjusting herself but still faces a bit too much to the right.

"Earth to Mochi. I'm over here?" He says again. She is confused and turns 360.

"What in the world...?" he walks to her face and pulls down her sunglasses. He is shocked.

Her eyes aren't grey like normal.

They are light blue.

"Lynx what on earth?!" he blurts out. She says nothing. He squints slightly and waves his hand in front her eyes like Dream did, but she doesn't even flinch.

"Are...are you blind...?" Ink gasps.

She looks down shamefully.

Tears well up in the raven haired boy's eyes. "For...for how long...?"

"Since last month." Lynx replies softly.

"WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL US??" Ink feels very hurt.

Doesn't...doesn't she trust us...?

"ᛒᛖᛣᚪᚢᛋᛖ ᛁ ᛞᚩᚾ'ᛏ ᚹᚪᚾᛏ ᚣᚩᚢ ᚪᛚᛚ ᛏᚩ ᚹᚩᚱᚱᚣ!!" she screams in Runes.

"Don't...want us to worry? Don't...want us to worry?" Ink grinds his teeth.

"We are your friends, Lynx! We worry about you! Even if you don't want us to, we still do! Why? Because we are your friends...no...we are your family! We help each other through hard times and share the good times together! No matter what! Family doesn't leave family alone!" tears spill our like fountains from Ink's eyes. The girl remains silent.

The tension doesn't last long as Ink hears a thump.

"Oh my god...MR. NIGHTMARE!!"

............................................................................................................

Lynx wakes up in a hospital bed. She feels an IV drip stuck to her right arm.

She sighs, but her breath shakes with grief.

Why do I have to be like this?

Why can't just be normal?

Why...am I so freaking weak?!

She starts to sob when they come in.

"Lynx..." Ink whispers. She faces right, were she guesses that's where they are.

"The doctor said they have the cure, and they can give it to you now..." Mr. Nightmare start.

"Really?" Lynx seems really happy.

"Yes, but..." he trails off.

She is taken aback.

"Your eyes...they can't heal your eyes. They will still take months to recover..." he looks into her blank eyes.

"...Well, that's ok I guess. At least I will be able to see again." she smiles.

Wait, she's actually ok with this?

"You...aren't mad?" the teacher asks.

"Why should I? I'll be fine." the student replies.

"I know this is cheating, but I will do your homework and copy notes for you." Dream suggests, earning a slightly disapproving stare from his brother.

"No." comes the sharp reply.

"Huh?" Dream looks up.

"Even though I'm temporarily blind, I still can do things on my own. I have to be independent." Lynx sounds enthusiastic.

"Aright then." Dream surrenders.

"Once you discharge from the hospital, I'mma buy you ice cream!" Ink says proudly.

"Why not during your next visit?" Lynx giggles.

"We'll all get ice cream, right Inky?" Blue asks.

"Sure enough, Blue-Blue." Ink chuckles.

"Yes. But before your next visit..." Mr. Nightmare states.

"WE HAVE TO DO OUR HOMEWORK!!" the four kids yell, knocking Mr. Nightmare off his chair.

"Yea...you got that right..." he groans, slumping to the ground as the four children's laughter fills the hospital.
