Fear Is Unneeded
Mr. Nightmare is teaching his little brother to do Math. He is halfway through Squaring when the phone rings. "I'll get it!" his brother chimes, running to the table telephone.
"Joku siblings, Dream speaking. Oh, Ms. Alphys! You're looking for my brother?" he places the receiver on the table and Mr. Nightmare jumps when he hears Dream screaming.
"BROTHER! MS. ALPHYS IS LOOKING FOR YOU!!" "Shoot!" his coffee is spilled all on the table. "I'll be down in a minute!" Dream's reply comes again, but softer this time. "I'm sorry, brother, but a minute you have not! Ms. Alphys says it's urgent!"
Mr. Nightmare picks up the receiver. "This is Nightmare." "Sir! I-I need your h-help! One of your s-students is on the school r-roof!!" "What? Which student?" "Lynx M-Mochi!"
His large hand holding Dream's smaller hand, Mr. Nightmare runs to the school.
Just what is that girl doing?
"M-Mr. Nightmare!" Ms. Alphys shouts as he reaches. She points up to the west wing where the roof is the flattest. "U-up there!"
Lynx is there.
She is up there.
Mr. Nightmare looks in horror. "Lynx!! What in the world are you doing?!"
No response.
"Lynx Mochi!!"
Still no response.
Growling, he tells Ms. Alphys to look after Dream. He then runs up the stairs to find the crazy girl. Eventually, he reaches the highest floor. He peers upwards.
"LYNX!!"
"GO AWAY!!!!!"
"Ms. Mochi! How dare you!" Mr. Nightmare is insulted.
A pair of grey eyes peer down. "I can't come down!"
"Then how did you get up there?!"
"N-no! I mean, I can't come down because..." a small pair of red eyes peer down too.
"Lynx, explain yourself!" Mr. Nightmare knows that pair or red eyes belong to her brother.
"Ms. Undyne is chasing us..." is the reply.
"Hey!" a voice from down there calls. "Mochi! You need to come down!! We have something to settle!"
"U-Undyne?!"
Undyne, the ex-student and war and weaponry teacher of the school is also present.
Lynx moves backwards. The two pairs of eyes disappearing from Mr. Nightmare's view.
"Undyne!"
"Mr. Nightmare?"
"We need to have a talk!"
Mr. Nightmare runs down as fast as he ran up earlier.
"Yeah?"
"Undyne, why are you chasing Lynx?"
"Simple. Fees."
"What?" Mr. Nightmare blinks.
"Yeah." Undyne replies. "This girl hasn't paid the monthly fee of the school. She's three months late, Sir."
"But how does it involve her toddler brother?" He needs to know.
"Even simpler. I go to her class, I request the fees. If she doesn't pay up, I simply threaten to beat the boy into a pulp. That'll make her think twice." Undyne states plainly.
"WHAT?" Mr. Nightmare's calm tone raises.
Does she even know what is going on?
"Woah, hey, it's only words, Sir. You don't think I'd actually beat up a toddler, do you?" Her hands are raised. Mr. Nightmare sighs. "Undyne, there is something you must know."
"And what is that?"
"Once upon a time..." "Oh great, now you're telling a story?" Undyne groans.
"Please, you must listen to this. Once upon a time, there was a girl. She has platinum blonde hair and grey eyes, raised by a family with grey hair and red eyes."
"The girl is adopted?"
"Yes. A few years later, the foster family was gifted with a bundle of joy. Despite the differences, the girl loves her brother as her own. They grew happy and healthy. One day, tragedy struck. Both the parents died, and girl is left alone with her little brother."
"Man, that sounds sad. What did the girl do?"
"The girl, knowing of the situation, moves to a small place they can call home. She begs on the streets and sometimes, even does manual labor to make ends meet."
"Begging and man- But those barely give enough to buy food!" "Exactly. How do you expect her to pay school fees? Also, she has no one else but her brother. How do you think she'd be able to cope a threat of her brother being beaten into a pulp?" Mr. Nightmare's final question.
"Wait...the girl in the story...that's Lynx?" Undyne pieces the entire puzzle together.
"Yes."
..............................................................................................
Lynx comes to school with her brother, hoping that Undyne won't try to hurt him once she finds he is gone from the house.
Thank goodness it's Mrs. Toriel's Household class first.
"Mrs. Toriel?"
"Oh, Undyne, can I help you dear?"
"Yes, you can actually. I'm looking for Lynx and Kagerou Mochi."
Lynx flinches, wrapping her arms protectively around the boy.
Undyne slowly walks to her table. She puts her hand out, fist closed.
Lynx draws back. Dream, Ink and Blue start to shout at Undyne to leave them alone.
Undyne opens her hand. There is a sweet inside. "For you, little boy." Kagerou's eyes light up. He grabs the sweet and tears the wrapper with his mouth. "B-bro, not like that, you should-" Too late. He eats the sweet. "It's a milk sweet, so you can grow up into a little man."
"Um...M-Ms. Undyne...W-what are you..." Undyne slips a receipt into her hand. "Uh...What..." "Someone already paid your fees, girl. In full." "Ah, w-who?" She opens up the receipt.
